An important critical edition of the *Corpus juris canonici* by the Pithou brothers. - Cf. Meder, pp. 153 ff. - Since the publication of the official papal text of the Corpus juris canonici in 1582, textual-critical work had been subject to the watchful, censorial scrutiny of the Church. Textual criticism within the framework of the now established text was certainly possible, but an unbiased scholarly examination of the text, such as that carried out on the *Corpus juris civilis*, was considered dangerous. Nevertheless, textual criticism of the *Corpus juris canonici* continued. This research reached its peak with the Pithou brothers, pupils of the famous Jacobus Cuiacius at the University of Bourges. - Slightly discoloured, some copies with a brown spot in the upper centre fold.
