A rare work and Louet’s most important treatise on Catholic canon law. - First edition of the work, published some 50 years after the author’s death. - Arabeyre, Dict. Hist., p. 519 - A highly specialised handbook for legal practice in the 16th and 17th centuries. Georges Louet took Du Moulin’s text and supplemented it with his own comprehensive glosses and legal commentary. He examined Du Moulin’s theses in the light of the practice of the Parliament of Paris and reconciled them with contemporary French case law. Georges Louet was born into an ancient noble family from Anjou and was a lawyer, a ‘Conseil-clerc’ of the Parliament of Paris, a canon and archdeacon of Angers, and General Agent of the Clergy of France from 1580 to 1582. - Partly containing some annotations in an old hand; overall, a fine copy of this rare work.
