Description
Soviet Union A collection of two original drawings depicting forced collectivisation. Early 20th century. Each is a pen-and-ink drawing on chamois-coloured, textured paper. Sheet dimensions: 24 x 20 cm and 17.5 x 32 cm. One of the two drawings most likely depicts a ‘Red Train’ carrying loads from a kolkhoz. The ‘Red Trains’ transported the first harvest of the season to state depots. During the ‘Holodomor’, a famine engineered by the Soviet government, these brigades were part of the government’s policy of deliberately depriving the peasants of food in order to hasten their starvation. - Works of interest from both a historical and an artistic perspective. - Each has some crease marks along the left margin.
