The Turkish History, Comprehending The Origin of that Nation, and the Growth of the Ottoman Empire with the Lives and Conquests of their several Kings and Emperors. Vol. 1 of 2. With 14 copper plates. London, Cleave, Roper, Bosvile & Basset, 1701. 5 leaves, 495 pp. 8°. Leather with corner fleurons on the cover and gold-stamped Binding (scuffed and bumped, slightly stained, front joint cracked). Extremely rare. Only once recorded on the market by us and not seen at auction since 1976. – With handwritten on the half-title page; half-title page glued to endpaper. – The ‘Generall Historie of the Turkes’ by the English historian Richard Kolles was published in 1603 and was expanded just under a century later by Paul Rycaut with his own accounts from his time in Constantinople. This is the first volume of the versions revised and abridged by John Savage. - Some pages show minimal worm-eaten damage. Stock and water-stained, edges discoloured. Overall in good condition. Turkey – Ottoman Empire – Vol. 1 of 2. With 14 copperplate engravings. Leather binding with corner fleurons on the covers and gilt-lettered spine labels (rubbed and bumped, slightly stained, front joint cracked). - Extremely rare. We have found only one other copy of this on the market, and it has not appeared at auction since 1976. - With a handwritten ownership inscription on the half-title, the half-title pasted to the front flyleaf. - The *Generall Historie of the Turkes* by the English historian Richard Knolles was published in 1603 and, just under a century later, Paul Rycaut expanded it with his own accounts from his time in Constantinople. Offered here is the first volume of the version revised and abridged by John Savage. - Minor worming in places. Some foxing and water-stains; edges browned. Overall in good condition.
