Alaska – Siberia – Ottoman Empire Gavriil Andreevich Sarychev et al. A collection of 22 views and ethnographic copperplate engravings with Cyrillic titles. Various sheet sizes ranging from approx. 21 x 27 to 49 x 57 cm. Includes 9 plates from the Billings–Sarychev expedition by Gavriil Andreevich Sarychev: Puteshestvie Flota Kapitana Sarycheva po severovostochnoi chasti Sibiri, Ledovitnomu moriu i Vostochnomu okeanu (The Journey of Fleet-Captain Sarychev through the North-Eastern Regions of Siberia, the Arctic Sea and the Pacific Ocean / ‘Journey through North-Eastern Siberia, the Arctic Sea and the North-Eastern Ocean’ (St Petersburg, 1802). In addition to views, it depicts: men and women from Unalaska Island (in festive dress, amongst other things), Kodiak Island, and the Steppe Tungus in winter clothing, etc. - Large format due to full white margins (these mostly showing water-stains and marginal discolouration), comprising 14 plates, mostly by Ignace Mouradgea d’Ohsson: *Tableau général de l’Empire Othoman* (1787), including interior views of mosques, the prayer room of the seraglio, a Muslim washing himself, the movements involved in Islamic prayer, the Mahdi, and others. - Some Folding creases and slight transfer marks; page edges slightly browned; occasional small marginal discolouration; otherwise generally well preserved. – Also included: 2 further ethnographic plates in steel engraving and lithography.
