Atlases Atlas moderno para uso da mocidade, ... (Modern Atlas for Young People.) Translated from the French (by J. A. da Costa e Sá). With 24 folded copperplate maps. Lisbon, Rolland, 1824. XXIV, 294 (2), 90 (suppl.) pp., 3 leaves (common). Small 8°. Marbled. Contemporary calf binding with title on a leather label in the second of five compartments decorated with double gold fillets, and with yellowed edges on the reverse (slightly bumped at the heads, corners and edges; the covers partly have minimal pinholes and a few very small defects in the binding, scuffed). A compact world atlas and geographical handbook for Portuguese youth in small format. – Dicionário bibliográfico português, 4.1860, p. 220 (regarding the translation) - As mentioned in the preface on p. XVI, the work is a Portuguese translation and adaptation for young people of Guillaume Delisle’s *Introduction à la géographie, avec un traité de la sphere* (1746). This is the 4th, further expanded edition; the atlas was first published in 1782. – The maps are all sharply engraved; there is a detailed index of places in the appendix. - A few older handwritten marginal notes in ink and pencil; overall in good condition; the plates have wide margins and are very clean.
