Description
Atlases Reymann, Gottlob Daniel (Special Topographical Map of Central Europe). Continued by Carl Wilhelm von Oesfeld and Friedrich Handtke. 7 vols. With 300 (probably out of 342) partly border-coloured engraved and lithographic maps. (Glogau, Fleming, c. 1860). Folio. Loosely inserted into contemporary half-leather wing folders with handwritten labels (worn, spines heavily scuffed and with defects). Cf. Engelmann 441. – With lithographed overview sheet. The maps bear the blind stamp of the General Staff in Berlin and, with the exception of those in the seventh folder, each has a number tab. The monumental map, depicting the territory of the German Empire and neighbouring countries, was produced for military use by several cartographers. The work was begun under the title ‘Topographical Special Map of Germany, Switzerland, Eastern France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland’ and continued as the ‘Topographical Special Map of Central Europe’ by C.W. von Oesfeld and F. Handtke. - The portfolios bear former school library labels and stamps. The overview sheet is heavily browned and stained, with a small corner loss; mounted on card. Some maps are slightly browned; overall in very clean condition. 7 vols. Containing 300 (probably out of 342) partially outlined, colour-engraved and lithographed maps. Comes in half-leather portfolios with handwritten labels on the covers (rubbed, spines damaged). – Includes a lithographed overview sheet. – The folders bear former library labels and stamps. The overview sheet is heavily browned and stained. Some maps are slightly browned; overall, they are in very good condition.
