Blind-embossed original half-leather binding with gold-stamped title on the cover (slightly rubbed and somewhat scuffed, with a few stains). 2nd edition of this monumental work of 19th-century scientific cartography. - Espenhorst 148 - Engelmann 77 - The maps were produced as extremely fine, highly detailed steel engravings. Rather than merely depicting geography, the maps presented synoptic representations – that is, the state of borders, trade routes and territories at precise historical periods. Contains: I. *Atlas Antiquus* (1850) with 27 maps with coloured borders. – II. Historical-Geographical Pocket Atlas on the History of Europe in 10 instalments (1837–1846) with a further 73 maps with coloured borders. maps. – III. Historical-Geographical Pocket Atlas on the History of Asia, Africa, America and Australia with 18 border-coloured maps. – Maps slightly foxed at the start or browned at the edges; overall a good copy.
