Album of Views of Livonia. Containing 28 (of 30) steel-engraved views, each with a descriptive text. (Views approx. 13 x 18 and 15 x 20.5 cm each). Mitu, self-published, 1866. 4°. Contemporary cloth binding (shabby and scuffed, damage to the cover).
First edition. Volume 2 (“Livonia”, now Latvia and Estonia) of the three-volume “Album of Baltic Views”. The engravings depict Riga, Dorpat, Fellin, Treiden, Jummerdehn and Bremenhof, as well as various castles and manor houses. Each view is accompanied by its own explanatory text. The album made the name of the draughtsman and sculptor Stavenhagen (1814–1881) popular throughout the Baltic provinces. - The views of Dubbeln and Wenden Castle are missing. The plates show only occasional light foxing. Rare.
