China China Days. Temple-Hill Cut-Outs. Featuring numerous mounted paper cut-outs. Chefoo, (c. 1930). Landscape 4°. Block book with silk covers (edges slightly bleached, minimal staining, front hinge cracked). The paper cuttings originate from the Temple Hill Presbyterian Mission in Chefoo, China. Paper cuttings have a long tradition in China and were often displayed in windows and on walls during the Lunar New Year. They frequently depicted animals, plants and dragons, as well as other figures. These paper cut-outs are divided into categories including landscapes, travel, customs, occupations and curiosities. One double-page spread is devoted to the Chinese zodiac signs and one page features a recipe. – Edges slightly browned. Overall in good condition. Contains numerous mounted paper cut-outs.
