Complete Travels Round the World. 3 volumes. With 1 frontispiece for Vol. 1, 5 copperplate engravings (2 of which serve as frontispieces for Vol. 2 and 3), 1 folded map and an additional folded map of the island of Otaheite from 1816, which does not normally form part of the edition. Vienna, Bauer, 1803. Contemporary paperbound volumes with leather labels (slightly stained, spines professionally restored).
Rare German-language edition. – Beddie 65 and Cook Bibliography Sydney 65, not listed in Sabin. - The copperplate engravings, unique to the German edition, were newly produced by J. Blaschke based on the works of William Hodges, which originally came from the official report of the second circumnavigation of the globe (‘A Voyage towards the South Pole, and round the World’). The frontispiece portrait is based on the painting by Nathaniel Dance. The work is supplemented in Volume 3 (pp. 627–636) by a separate biographical portrait of the seafarer. - From the dissolved library of Münchhofen Castle, bearing its stamp on the title page. Additionally bound with the map of the island of Otaheite by Captain William Wilson, printed in Prague in 1816, which does not normally form part of the edition. - 2 stamps and 1 dedication on the endpaper and title page; slightly browned and with occasional light staining due to the nature of the paper.
