Contemporary leather binding on 5 bands with red edging and floral gold lettering (battered, head capital with a small loss, cover slightly warped, 3 wormholes). The parish court was introduced in 1580 throughout the German-speaking part of the Canton of Bern and in the Vaudese subject territories. This code of moral law became the first uniform legal system, and the parish court—which was intended to replace episcopal authority—became the first proper authority in the parishes.
