Spain – Balearic Islands Ferrá, Bartolomé and Julio Virenque Ferrá, Bartolomé and Julio Virenque. *Album artístico de Mallorca*. Containing 50 mounted original photographs by Julio Virenque (1826–1876), albumen prints, each approx. 100 × 138 mm, with violet double frames and printed captions above and below each photograph. Palma, printed by Pedro José Gelabert, 1873. 4°. Original cloth binding with gilt title on the front cover. 4°. (Edges rubbed; spine with a few small tears). First edition, rare (according to the KVK, only 3 copies: Loc, Genoa and Barcelona). - A rare publication by two members of the Academia de Bellas Artes de Las Baleares. Bartomeu Ferrà i Perelló (1843–1924), the author of the accompanying text, was a famous Mallorcan poet and archaeologist. The works of art depicted are held in private collections and public institutions across the island. The photographs show paintings, religious artworks, sculptures, majolica pieces, bronze objects, decorative items, etc. - Some sheets show signs of mould stains, which are largely confined to the margins. Some photographs are slightly faded, but most exhibit very good to excellent tonal quality. 50 mounted original photographs by Julio Virenque (1826–1876), albumen prints, each approx. 100 x 138 mm, within violet double borders and with printed captions above and below the photograph. Publisher’s pebbled cloth, gilt title on the front board. 4to (318 x 5 mm). Edges rubbed, spine with a few small tears. – The photographs depict paintings, religious works of art, sculptures, majolica pieces, bronze objects, decorative items, etc. A rare book with only three copies recorded in the KVK: LoC, Genoa and Barcelona.
