Sudeten Album. The Silesian Spas and their Surroundings, drawn from life. Breslau, Trewendt, (1848–1856). Vol. III. (Krkonoše Mountains): Warmbrunn and Surroundings. With 18 tinted lithographs. Quarto folio. – Half leather (stained).
Extremely rare; no copies known to be on the international market. This volume comprises the section ‘Warmbrunn and Surroundings’, featuring a total of 18 lithographs, ranging from the spa town of Warmbrunn (Cieplice) through the Hirschberg Valley to the higher elevations of the ridge. Fischbach (Karpniki – Castle), Erdmannsdorf (Myslakowice), Stohnsdorf and the Prudelberg (Staniszów / Mount Witosza), Warmbrunn (Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój), The theatre and gallery in Warmbrunn, Buchwald (Bukowiec – castle), Kynast (Chojnik Castle near Hirschberg), Kochelfall (the Kochel waterfall near Schreiberhau/Szklarska Poreba), Zackenfall (Zacken Waterfall), Hochstein (mountain hut on the Hochstein/Wysoki Kamien), Flinsberg (Swieradów-Zdrój), Elbfall (waterfall on the River Elbe), Schneegruben (Sniezne Kotly), Wang Church (Kosciól Wang, Krummhübel/Karpacz), Anna Chapel (Sosnówka), The Great Pond (Wielki Staw in the Karkonosze Mountains), Sniezka (mountain refuge and St Laurentius Chapel on Sniezka), Josephine’s Hut (Szklarska Poręba) This series of photographs thus covers the classic circular route through the Karkonosze Mountains – from the spa town of Warmbrunn via the foothills (Kynast, Buchwald) to the waterfalls, mountain huts and the summit of Sniezka – and, together with the two other sections (the Salzbrunn group and the Landeck/Reinerz group), forms the complete 47-sheet Sudeten Album. The Sudeten Album (“The Silesian Spas and their Surroundings, Drawn from Life”) was published between 1846/1848 and 1862 by Eduard Trewendt’s art publishing house in Breslau and is regarded, alongside the “Argo. Album für Kunst und Dichtung”, as one of his publishing house’s most significant works. For this magnificent volume, Trewendt was awarded the Gold Medal for Art and Science by King Frederick William IV. The views were drawn by Ferdinand Koska (1808–1862) and lithographed by W. Loeillot or the Mercier & Loeillot establishment in Berlin. Somewhat brown-stained in places, particularly at the edges, and slightly yellowed. Very rare.
Czech Republic. - Very rare; no copy can be found on the international market. - This is a translation task, which I can complete directly using the provided German text. The section in question is ‘Warmbrunn und Umgebungen’ (‘Warmbrunn and its Surroundings’), comprising a total of 18 lithographs ranging from the spa town of Warmbrunn (Cieplice) across the Hirschberg Valley up to the high ridges of the mountain range. Fischbach (Karpniki – castle), Erdmannsdorf (Myslakowice), Stohnsdorf and the Prudelberg (Staniszów / Mount Witosza), Warmbrunn (Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój), The Theatre and the Gallery at Warmbrunn, Buchwald (Bukowiec – castle), Kynast (Chojnik Castle near Hirschberg), Kochelfall (waterfall of the Kochel near Schreiberhau/Szklarska Poreba), Zackenfall (waterfall on the Zacken), Hochstein (the refuge hut on the Hochstein/Wysoki Kamien), Flinsberg (Swieradów-Zdrój), Elbfall (waterfall on the River Elbe), Schneegruben (Sniezne Kotly), Wang Church (Wang Church, Krummhübel/Karpacz), St Anna’s Chapel (Sosnówka), The Great Pond (in the Giant Mountains), Die Schneekoppe (the shelter hut and Laurentius Chapel on Sniezka), Josephinenhütte (Szklarska Poreba). This sequence of images thus covers the classic circuit through the Giant Mountains (Riesengebirge) – from the spa town of Warmbrunn, via the foothills (Kynast, Buchwald), to the waterfalls, mountain huts and the summit of Sniezka – and, together with the two other sections (the Salzbrunn group and the Landeck/Reinerz group), forms the complete 47-plate Sudeten-Album. The Sudeten-Album (“Views of the Silesian Spas and Their Surroundings, Drawn from Nature”) was published between 1846/1848 and 1862 by Eduard Trewendt’s art publishing house in Breslau, and, alongside “Argo. Album für Kunst und Dichtung”, is regarded as one of the most significant works produced by his publishing house. For this splendid work, Trewendt was awarded the gold medal for art and science by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. The views were drawn by Ferdinand Koska (1808–1862) and lithographed by W. Loeillot, or rather by the Mercier & Loeillot printing works in Berlin. Some foxing in places, particularly at the margins; slightly browned. Very rare.
