Extremely rare. – Small-format series of views of Berlin after Friedrich August Calau (active from c. 1790 to 1830). “He drew graceful views of Berlin’s streets and houses for copperplate engravings … His watercolours are true marvels of miniature painting. Despite the small format, the rendering of the architecture is entirely accurate and precise; the dainty figures perfectly reflect the Biedermeier spirit of Berlin in their posture and traditional dress.” (Thieme/B. V, 374f.) - Featuring views of: the Brandenburg Gate, the Charité, the Prinzenpalais, Potsdamer Platz, Alexanderplatz, Charlottenburg Palace – amongst others – Slightly browned due to age and the condition of the paper (in places somewhat more so), individual leaves with pale brown spots, some with slight finger marks, the corners minimally bumped. Overall in very good condition. Exceptionally magnificent and high-contrast prints, each with a narrow margin. -- We would be happy to send a complete list of the illustrations on request.
