Memories of Hamburg. From the papers of the poor man from Gutbronn. With 5 copperplate engravings, 4 of which are folded, and one additional etching. Leipzig, Tauchnitz, 1803. 2 leaves (title page, preface, half-title), 132 pp. 8°. Contemporary interim binding (spine and outer margins slightly damaged).
First and only edition, with illustrations of Blankenese, Eimsbüttel, Hamm and Harvestehude. - Holzmann-Bohatta VII, 3281. - Rump, p. 78. - Very rare; we have only been able to trace two further copies at auctions over the last 30 years. - The unsigned plates (by Gottfried Arnold Lehmann) depict the country houses of Peter Godefroy in Dockenhusen, Privy Councillor Faber’s between Rabe and Harvestehude, and that of a certain Gräpel in Hamm, as well as an unnamed country house in the Eimsbüttler Holz. The fifth plate depicts the tomb in the Hammer Cemetery, created by the sculptor Wendelin Ohnmacht for the wife of the merchant Engelbach. - Slightly dusty and with brown spots at the beginning and towards the end; otherwise a well-preserved, wide-margined copy of this rare work.
