Pomerania – Kolberg Girschner, Nestor The Baltic Sea and the seaside resorts on its German coast. With particular reference to Kolberg and its surroundings, and its brine and seaside resorts. Kolberg and Dramburg, Carl Jancke, 1868. 4 leaves, 219 pp. 8°. Blind-stamped red contemporary cloth with gold-stamped spine and German title (soiled, somewhat stained and bumped, joints partly split). First, and probably only, edition. Very rare. Not traceable in the international trade. Listed 4 times in WorldCat. - ‘With an afterword: What does Kolberg offer and provide as a spa, and for which illnesses is it to be recommended above all other spas, by Dr Hirschfeld’ (i.e. Hermann Hirschfeld (*1842, father of the renowned sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld in Kolberg). - Girschner’s account, in the form of a travelogue to Kolberg, also covers, amongst other things: amber, sea shells, seaweed and beach plants, sea fish, zoological features, the climate, Maikuhle and Strandschloss, St Mary’s Cathedral, the history of Kolberg, the water parade, and excursions in the Kolberg area. - Girschner (1821–1885) was a German educator and author who worked as a teacher and senior teacher in Parchim and Kolberg, and as headmaster of the Realschule in Kolberg from 1855 to 1858. - Includes a printed dedication page to Dr Wiese of Berlin, Privy Councillor and honorary citizen of Kolberg. - Browned due to the paper, with some slight foxing in places; otherwise generally well preserved. First, and probably only, edition. Very rare. Not found in international trade. 4 copies in WorldCat. - Red cloth with blind embossing, gilt-stamped spine and title (soiled, somewhat stained and bumped, spines partly cracked). - With a postscript as listed above by Dr Hirschfeld (i.e. Hermann Hirschfeld (*1842, father of the renowned sexologist Dr Hermann Hirschfeld of Kolberg). - Girschner’s remarks, in the form of a travelogue to Kolberg, also deal with, amongst other things: amber, sea shells, seaweed and beach plants, sea fish, zoology, climate, Maikuhle and the beach castle, St Mary’s Cathedral, the history of Kolberg, the water parade, and excursions in the surroundings of Kolberg. - Girschner (1821–1885) was a German educator and author who worked as a teacher and head teacher in Parchim and Kolberg, and from 1855 to 1858 as headmaster of the secondary school in Kolberg. - Includes a printed dedication page to the Privy Senior Government Councillor and honorary citizen of Kolberg, Dr Wiese in Berlin. - Browning due to the paper, some foxing, otherwise in good condition.
