Germany Norderney. – A view of Norderney. Central image surrounded by 14 marginal views. Colour lithograph by Julius Tempeltey, published by Kunsthandlung Kraus, Bremen, c. 1860. 39.5 x 54.5 cm. A very rare, decorative print, for which we have found no bibliographical reference. – The central image shows Norderney as seen from the Marienhöhe (22 x 34 cm). The peripheral views depict the island’s landmarks: the Adolphsreihe as seen from the market square – Marienhöhe – the Royal Palace and the Conversationshaus – the church from the west side – the mudflats – on the Schanze - Herrenstrand – the Conversationshaus as seen from the market square – the entrance to Norderney from the mudflats – a view through the dunes at Marienhöhe – Damenstrand – a view near the ice cellar – a view from the Schanze towards the beacon – the church from the east side. - Marienhöhe is a high dune with a café on the Ladies’ Path. It is named after Queen Marie of Hanover and was already a popular vantage point before the pavilion was built (around 1850). Julius Tempeltey (1802–1870) was a Berlin landscape painter and lithographer. He also produced views of Bremen. Lightly cleaned and smoothed. This lot is subject to standard tax.
