Edited by Georg Braun, engraved by Franz Hogenberg, Cologne. – A view of Constance from the famous atlas by Braun and Hogenberg, which was first published in 1572 and ranks among the most significant topographical publications of the 16th century. In the characteristic bird’s-eye view, the city unfolds as a densely fortified community on the Rhine, depicted in an idealised, representative style. - The sheet is discoloured due to age, with traces of previous mounting along the upper edges; there are some slight creases in places and small, scattered spots. Overall in good condition.
