Prospectus montis B. Virginis Mariae, vulgo Frauen-Berg Francofurti ad Moenum/Prospetto del monte della beatissima Vergine Maria a Francoforte al Meno. c. 1770. Copperplate engraving with old colouring on handmade paper. Approx. 29.5 x 41.5 cm. With a bilingual title in Latin and Italian. Mounted on a passe-partout and framed behind glass.
Based on a design by Salomon Kleiner. - The print depicts the snow-covered Liebfrauenberg in Frankfurt am Main, with the Liebfrauenkirche on the right and the fountain in the centre of the square, sheltered for the winter, brought to life with a rich array of sleighs, horsemen, strollers and children sledging. The windows have been cut out to allow light to pass through the peep-box and are partly backed with paper. - Trimmed very close to the plate edge. Centre fold with small tears at the margins in the upper fold area. Margins browned and slightly dusty, with minor discolouration at the edges. The sky is sporadically mottled and slightly rubbed, with a few small losses in the colouring. Overall in good condition. A clear, detailed print with strong colouring. Backed with a later silver foil, partly glued to the reverse, which can be removed.
