Tombleson, after William
Bad Ems. View from the east. c. 1835. Aquatina etching on vellum. 12.2 x 18.5 cm. Mounted in a passe-partout.
A later edition of the view of the spa town of Bad Ems on the River Lahn, based on a work by William Tombleson. - The print originally formed part of Tombleson’s publication *Views of the Rhine*, which first appeared in London in 1832 and is listed under the title *Baths Ems*. The view combines the expansive river landscape with the characteristic riverside buildings of the spa town. At that time, Bad Ems was known primarily for its healing mineral springs and, in the 19th century, developed into an internationally renowned spa resort for monarchs, politicians and artists from across Europe. - Slight wear to the corners. Isolated brown spots. Overall in excellent condition. A vivid, crisp print.
