Germany – Lower Saxony A view of Braunschweig. Braunschweig as seen from the Windmühlenberg. Coloured lithograph with 24 marginal views. (Drawn from life by Gustav Taubert. Braunschweig, Ramdohr, 1847.) 37.5 x 53.5 cm. Mounted in a passe-partout. Extremely rare; no copies have appeared at auction, and we have found no evidence of any copies on the international market. Engelmann, *Bibliographica Geographica*, 367. – Brose Collection, 1439. – Paul Graupe, Catalogue 84, 286. – A magnificent view featuring figures in the foreground, looking out over Braunschweig. The central panoramic view highlights the silhouette of the city with its churches, towers and historic walls, whilst the surrounding panels complement this with a panorama of urban and rural life in the surrounding area. The peripheral views, depicted simultaneously, show the Wallmarkt, the Hoftheater, the railway station, the New Infantry Barracks, the railway station, Burgenplatz with the cathedral, the Landschafts- and Sändehaus, the museum, Autorshöhe, villas, Richmond Castle, St Catherine’s Church, the Collegium Carolinum, the Schützenhaus, the Augusttor, etc. – Partially browned; two old, restored tears. - Overall still in good condition with beautiful, rich colouring.
