Germany – North Rhine-Westphalia Ziegler, Johann 6 works. Views. Circa 1800. Each a coloured copperplate engraving on handmade paper or (J. Whatman) vellum (with watermark). Sheet size up to 42 x 54 cm. With engraved lettering containing the artist’s, title (in German and French) and publisher’s details in the lower margin. Includes: View of the Königstuhl near Rense towards Lohnstein – View of Speyer – Interior view of the ruins at Andernach – View of the town and surroundings of Bonn – View of Thurnberg Castle and the surroundings of Welmenach – Ruins at Godesberg near Bonn. - Based on drawings by Laurenz Janscha (1749–1812). - Published by Artaria Comp., Vienna. - Some sheets show crease marks and tears at the margins; these have partly been smoothed out or repaired; some have brown stains; on the reverse, some have small traces of mounting and are slightly faded; one sheet is laminated over its entire surface onto a backing; overall in good condition. Consistently superb prints with vigorous colouring, each with a (narrow) margin. Included: - Coloured copperplate engraving by F.X. Müller, view of the old Gothic church on the road near Speyer, c. 1800. 6 works. Each a coloured copperplate engraving on laid or rather (J. Whatman) wove paper (with watermark). With engraved text giving the artist’s name, title (in German and French) and publisher’s details. – After drawings by Laurenz Janscha (1749–1812). - Published by Artaria Comp., Vienna. - With works as mentioned above. - Some with crease marks and marginal tears, some of which have been smoothed out or repaired, some with brown stains; the reverse side shows some small traces of previous mounting and is slightly discoloured; one work is fully mounted onto an underlying mat; all in all in good condition. Throughout, excellent impressions with strong colouring, each with a (narrow) margin. Added: Coloured copperplate engraving by F.X. Müller. This lot is subject to standard tax.
