Great Britain English, 18th century 4 works. English landscapes. Circa 1800. Each in pen and ink, watercolour or pencil on handmade paper. Sizes ranging from 20 x 31.5 cm to 26 x 32 cm. Each slightly browned due to age, with occasional small spots in places; the edges of each are partly slightly bumped and show crease marks. One sheet has partial ink bleed on the reverse. Overall in good condition. Includes: Watercolour with pen-and-ink drawing ‘Village from Whittlesea’ – pencil drawing ‘Vale of Ffestiniog with part of Cardigan & the mountains of Caernarvon’ - Pencil drawing ‘Pont Aberglaslyn, North Wales’ – Watercolour ‘Sowdonia (Eryri)’ – Four landscape studies, created in the context of British travel around 1800. Stylistically and thematically, the views can be placed within the context of the ‘picturesque’ aesthetic typical of the period and document the impressions of British travellers in the early 19th century. 4 works.
