Near Nice at Golfe-Juan, from the King Ludwig Album. 1853/54. Chalk lithograph with an ochre-coloured tone plate, and a border and lettering in the style of gold-bronze printing on sturdy vellum. 20 x 27.5 cm (43.5 x 58.5 cm). With engraved lettering containing the artist’s, printer’s and publisher’s details at the bottom margin.
After a painting by Carl Hess (1801–1874). – From: Album of His Majesty King Ludwig I of Bavaria, Munich, Vol. III, 1853/54, plate 74. – Published by the Royal.Bavarian Private Art Institute by Piloty & Loehle, Munich / Hering & Remington, London. With the blind stamp of Piloty & Loehle, Munich, at the centre of the lower margin. - A few slight creases, partly slightly soiled, isolated pale brown spots in the margins, slightly browned at the outer edge, pencil annotations at the bottom, slightly browned on the reverse, isolated brown spot; overall in good condition. An excellent, chalky and wonderfully nuanced print with a wide, full margin.
