Framed under glass. - Slightly wavy due to the nature of the material. Surface showing slight, sporadic scuffing. Isolated instances of minimal brown spots. Overall in excellent condition, with fresh colours. This view is one of the popular Swiss vedute published by Bleuler, which were circulated in the 19th century as representative travel prints. It depicts the Rütli on Lake Lucerne, that historically significant site regarded as the symbolic setting of the Swiss founding myth. Characteristic of Bleuler’s work is the combination of topographical accuracy with a finely tuned, painterly colour scheme that particularly emphasises the scenic charm of the Swiss Alpine region. - Bleuler worked in a prolific veduta workshop in Schaffhausen, where views of Switzerland were printed and subsequently coloured with gouache.
