Turkey Silvestre, Israël The Church of Saint Sophia in Constantinople, built by Constantine the Great, now the Grand Seigneur’s Mosque. c. 1655. Etching on handmade paper. 11.5 x 25.5 cm (15 x 27 cm). Titled beneath the image and inscribed on the plate as ‘Israel Silvestre Sculp.’, ‘Israel ex. cum privil Regis’ and numbered ‘99’. Mounted on a passe-partout and framed behind glass. Faucheux 11.8. – Paper browned with age, with occasional staining; slight ink bleed-through on the reverse. Excellent, crisp print with a narrow margin. Turkey. – Etching on laid paper. Titled below the image and inscribed on the plate “Israel Silvestre Sculp.” and “Israel ex. cum privil Regis”, as well as numbered “99”. Mounted in a passe-partout and framed under glass. - Faucheux 11.8. - Paper browned with age and with occasional spots; slight show-through of the printing ink on the reverse. A fine, crisp impression with narrow margins.
