Hans Burgkmair the Elder and others Depiction from the Triumphal Procession of Emperor Maximilian I. After 1570. Woodcut. 39.5 × 40.3 cm (41 × 58 cm). Cf.: Bartsch, *Le Peintre-Graveur*, Vol. VII, Vienna 1796. – The Triumphal Procession of Emperor Maximilian I ranks among the most significant printmaking projects of the Renaissance and was created as part of Emperor Maximilian I’s representative pictorial programme. The monumental series, comprising over 130 woodcut sheets, was executed from 1512 onwards by several leading artists of the time, including Albrecht Altdorfer, Hans Burgkmair the Elder and Albrecht Dürer, based on designs by Jörg Kölderer. The series depicts an idealised triumphal procession of the Emperor modelled on ancient examples and served to promote the dynastic image of the House of Habsburg. – Surface partially slightly rubbed. Paper yellowed with age and showing scattered brown spots. Corners with slight knocks. There are isolated small tears of up to approx. 1 cm along the upper and lower margins. Overall, an outstanding, sharp print with the plate margin.
