Kobell, Ferdinand Set of 4 works. Each an etching on laid paper. Second half of the 19th century. Sizes ranging from 11 x 8.5 to 10 x 15.3 cm. Mounted at the top edge beneath a passe-partout. Presumably prints from the 1842 edition ‘Etchings. 178 plates. By Ferdinand Kobell.’ – Prints from older plates. – Cf. Stengel, Catalogue Raisonné, 1822.- Four finely executed landscape etchings by Ferdinand Kobell, whose graphic work ranks amongst the most charming German landscape series of the late 18th century. The prints display his characteristic combination of rocky areas, dense woodland, small figurative elements and calmly rendered landscapes. It is precisely in the delicate, lively treatment of vegetation and terrain that their particular charm lies. – Included: an etching by Franz Gabet, 1796, depicting a landscape.
