Valegio, Francesco Four sheets from the series ‘Venationes Ferarum, Avium, Piscium’ after Jan van der Straet, known as Stradanus. c. 1600. Each a copperplate engraving on handmade paper. Plate dimensions: 20 x 28 cm each; sheet dimensions: approx. 23 x 33 cm each. Each signed in the plate and with a Latin couplet at the lower margin. Sheets partly slightly soiled and with foxing, with a few small spots here and there. Some have irregular edges and a few very small tears; others show slight crease marks. Overall in good condition. Fine, rough-edged and highly detailed prints of the famous hunting series in the version by the Venetian engraver and publisher, with a narrow margin. - Cf. British Museum Nos. 1957,0413.108, 1957,0413.113, 1957,0413.111, 1957,0413.104. - Includes: Monkey hunt – Buzzard hunt in winter – Wood pigeon hunt – Starling and partridge hunt with a decoy ox.
