Sheet of prints
A collection of 9 sheets of prints. France and Germany, circa 1840 to circa 1948. Each is a colour lithograph, woodcut or colour offset on vellum, some with hand-colouring or stencil colouring, some with gold embossing. Sheet sizes ranging from approx. 53.5 x 37.5 cm to approx. 59.5 x 42 cm. Some bear inscriptions in a third party’s hand.
Includes: ‘Gardes d’Honneur’ (Paris, Fournier, c. 1840–1860) – ‘Armée française. Cuirassiers’, No. 1528 (Weissenburg, C. Burckardt’s successors, c. 1880–1900) – three satirical prints on the German War of 1866 from Épinal (Pinot & Sagaire), including “Le fusil à aiguille” and “Garibaldi” - four model-making sheets from the series “Große Sammlung französischer Bilderbogen” (Freudenstadt, Schwarzwald-Verlag, under licence from Henri Neveu, Paris, c. 1930–1950): ‘Gutenberg in his Mainz printing works’ and ‘William Tell’ (3 sheets). - Paper browned with age, in places slightly creased and stained, with occasional small tears at the margins and crease marks. Overall in very good condition. Excellent, high-contrast prints with sharp edges and full margins; the colour is fresh.
