Costumes A collection of 83 plates depicting all ecclesiastical and secular orders of knights and dames. 1821. Coloured copperplate engravings in the stippling style on handmade paper. Drawn and executed by Peter Bohmann (1768–1817). From: Part Three, The Ecclesiastical and Secular Orders of Knights and Dames. In loose-leaf booklets, in: Illustrations of All Ecclesiastical and Secular Orders of Knights and Dames. Edited by the heirs of Peter Bohmann, arranged and with a brief text by J. K. Wietz (1791–1844), Prague, 1821. Each 15.6 x 10.6 cm (19.7 x 12.1 cm). Each with an engraved German title at the bottom margin. An extensive collection of striking engravings depicting the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Knights of Malta in ceremonial dress, the Grand Cross of the Order of St George in Bavaria, Knights of the Order of the Dannebrog in Denmark, Knights of the Order of Charles XIII in Sweden, Commander of the Order of St Henry in Haiti, amongst others. 83 of 94 plates; plates XXXIV, XXXV, XXXVIII, LXVI, LXVII, LXXII, LXXIII, LXXIV, LXXV, LXXVI and LXXXIX missing. Without title and text pages; the pages have been completely detached from the binding, some are discoloured, show signs of handling, creases and only minimal tear marks, as well as some faint stains. Overall still in good condition. Magnificent, high-contrast prints with clearly defined plate edges and margins. Coloured copperplate engravings in a pointillist style on handmade paper.
