Decorative Arts – Jewellery Album of design sketches. No place or date (France, c. 1860s). Containing approx. 80 jewellery designs, some of which are labelled, in black pen and pencil, partly with grey wash, on 69 mostly small sheets of varying sizes and paper types, mounted on 49 white sheets of vélin. Quarto 8° (22.5 x 14.6 cm). Contemporary morocco binding with decorative gold and blind embossing. Including, in some cases, multiple fillet frames with rocaille decoration, as well as interlacing and scrollwork; the endpapers are of blind-embossed waxed coloured paper; gold edging on the reverse (spine, headbands, corners and edges more heavily gilded; covers slightly scuffed). A delightful album containing detailed and finely drawn original designs. – Depicted are earrings, necklaces, brooches, pendants etc.; a few of these are additionally labelled in pen, mostly with numbers (indicating size or carat weight) and a brief descriptive text. - A few leaves, mostly on the reverse, show slight foxing in places; overall, a well-preserved, unique document of French joaillerie from the Second Empire. Jewellery. – A delightful album containing detailed and finely drawn original jewellery designs, comprising approximately 80 jewellery designs in black ink and pencil with some grey wash on 69 mostly small leaves of various sizes and paper types, mounted on 49 white sheets of vellum. - The drawn specimens depict earrings, necklaces, brooches, pendants, etc., a few of which are additionally labelled in ink, mostly with numbers (size or carat weight) and a short descriptive text. - A few sheets, mostly on the reverse, show some minor foxing. Overall, a well-preserved and unique document of French jewellery from the Second Empire. This lot is subject to standard tax.
