Price list of H. Fries Silversmiths. With a lithographed title page featuring an ornamental border and 27 original albumen photographs based on drawings, mounted in tinted frames on white backing boards. Bern, Rieder & Simmen for Fries, undated (c. 1868). 4 unnumbered Leaves (title, text), 27 mounted leaves, 2° (approx. 40.8 x 33.2 cm). Original linen binding with gold-stamped title label set within a blind-stamped floral border, the latter framed by a gold-stamped frame (spine expertly re-linen-bound, edges showing slight foxing).
Exclusive catalogue with price list for tableware by the Bernese gold and silversmiths Fries. - The first photograph showing the imposing entrance to the shop of Heinrich Fries, successor to the famous goldsmith Rehfues (1808–68), which was integrated into the newly constructed building of the Swiss National Bank. The high-contrast photographs feature detailed (pencil) drawings of commissioned works, along with a further 20 photographs of various silverware, including bowls, tea sets, trays, etc. - The front and back covers, title page, text pages and, in some instances, the backing boards are slightly foxed; otherwise, this is a well-preserved, rare document of Swiss silversmithing.
