Album lithographique. 4 volumes, 1831–1833, 1835. With 4 lithographic title pages and 48 lithographic plates with illustrations by Auguste Raffet. Paris, Gihaut, 1831–35. Quarto. Contemporary half-leather binding with decorative gilt lettering (3 lithographed front covers bound in).
First edition. – Thieme-B. XXVII, 564 – Between 1830 and 1837, Raffet produced an annual album, each containing twelve lithographs, published by the Parisian publishers Gihaut Frères. It documents and shapes French commemorative culture after 1830, particularly Napoleonic mythology. Raffet was a pupil of Gros and a master of black lithography; his images are highly detailed and have had a defining influence on the style of military illustration. - Bookplate on the endpaper; a small collector’s stamp on the reverse of the plates; some pages are slightly browned or slightly stained; overall, a fine, decoratively bound copy.
