First edition. – VD17 3:018957E – Dünnhaupt, 3849, 1.4 – Schupp was a professor of history and rhetoric at Marburg, and from 1643 also a pastor at St Elisabeth’s Church. In 1647–48, he took part in the peace negotiations in Münster as a delegate of the Landgrave, where he delivered the two peace sermons in 1648. Although he also wrote poetry, his strength lay in prose. These consist of moral and contemporary satires. They are directed against deceitfulness, boasting and extravagance (History of the Early Modern Period). – Johann Balthasar S., known primarily as a satirist, but also as a practical theologian and an educator of no small importance (see ADB 33, pp. 66–77 for details). – Title page slightly discoloured and stained, with a small, patched-over tear in the right-hand outer margin. A collection of two sermons, typical moral and social satires directed against deceitfulness, boasting and extravagance.
