In 1595, the Osnabrück Cathedral Chapter (appointment on the Tuesday after Judica) appointed him Rector of the cathedral school there. This school had been attended by both Catholic and Protestant pupils since the time of the Augsburg Interim (1548), but now, as the new, strictly Catholic rector replaced the former teachers with others – whom the people called Jesuits — abolished the Lutheran textbooks, introduced Canisius’s catechism and otherwise infringed upon the rights of the Protestant inhabitants, the latter withdrew almost all their sons from the cathedral school… (ADB 39, pp. 53–55). - A multi-line handwritten entry, probably contemporary, on the endpaper; the book is slightly browned throughout; the title plate is stamped on the unprinted margin.
