Father Placidus was the principal author, but died before the work was printed. Gregor Fuchs supplemented and completed the unfinished manuscript following Urtlauff’s death. Fuchs later (in 1717) rose to become the influential abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Theres am Main. The sermons are extremely rich in ‘pleasing concepts’ (Baroque modes of thought), historical examples (illustrative stories) and quotations from the Church Fathers. The authors employ stark language to denounce vices (such as avarice, pride or gluttony) and to rouse the faithful to moral awareness. – Bookplate and name on the inside cover.
