First edition. – Goedeke VII, 541, 11.B.a – Borst 1135 – Neufforge p. 263 – A collection of 128 short stories and anecdotes from the years 1803 to 1811 from the Baden provincial almanac *Rheinländischer Hausfreund*. - ‘This *Hausfreund* … would suffice to secure Hebel a place of honour in German literature for all time. This golden folksiness in language, style and content has scarcely been equalled, let alone surpassed, to date …’ (ADB 11, 192).
