Description
Nietzscheana – Dite Collection Nietzsche, Friedrich The Case of Wagner. A Musician’s Problem. Second edition. Leipzig, Naumann, 1892. 57 pp. (mod.) Paperback in the style of the period with red edges. Genuine 2nd edition, printed in a run of 1,000 copies in October 1891, here dated 1892 (not the case with Schaberg. – Cf. Schaberg 54 and pp. 213ff. – Since the 1860s, Nietzsche had been preoccupied with music and the figure of Wagner, initially as an admirer and friend, and ultimately as a critic, indeed an enemy of the composer, whom Nietzsche now portrayed as the ‘Germanic’ commander of an obedient audience ‘with long legs’. This dispute was to culminate, a few months after the publication of the present work, in the pamphlet *Nietzsche contra Wagner*. - Partially untrimmed, slightly bumped, lower corner slightly stained at the beginning; overall a good copy. Genuine 2nd edition, printed in a run of 1,000 copies in October 1891, listed here as 1892 (not the case with Schaberg). – Hardback in the style of the period, with a spine label.
