L. Marboeuf & Cie.
Collection of 34 design sketches for chocolate and perfume boxes. 1920. Predominantly pochoir colouring. Quarto. Mounted on album pages, in a contemporary cloth-bound album (with defects).
Promotional album by the luxury publishers L. Marboeuf & Cie to mark the presentation of their New Year’s greetings for 1920, featuring various designs for boxes for chocolate, marrons glacés, fine sweets and luxury perfumes. Most of the designs are coloured using the pochoir technique, with some additionally embossed in gold. Whilst some models are still in the more traditional 19th-century style, others already incorporate typical Art Deco elements of the 1920s. The vibrantly coloured designs come in various shapes: rounded, square, oval or rectangular. Some are also adorned with decorative ribbons. The collection includes designs for the leading names in the confectionery and chocolate industry of the time: Au chat noir, Mogol’s, E. Maze, F. A. Desarnod, Kohler, Klaus, Confiserie Zurcher, À la petite bergère, as well as for well-known perfumers such as Lydès, Gueldy, Silva, Selfridge London, Parfumerie Ninon, Gilot, Rigaud and Gabilla. The Parisian firm Marboeuf & Cie specialised in art publishing and luxury cardboard packaging. – Some minor scuffing. One design with a tear at the edge. Well preserved and with vivid colours.
