Description
Art Deco
A collection of 5 magnificent pochoirs depicting birds. France, c. 1925. Pochoirs on paper, 4 of which are mounted on light card. Dimensions: 88.5 x 46.5 cm each.
The collection contains two different motifs, one appearing twice and the other three times, each with slight variations in colour. The motifs are framed by a pochoir border depicting a cord with tassels. With their vibrant colours, the prints are reminiscent of French masters of pochoir art such as Émile Alain Séguy and Édouard Bénédictus. The motifs bear some resemblance to advertisements by André Gillier, the Troyes-based haberdashery manufacturer and later co-founder of the Lacoste brand, particularly those in the fashion magazine *Art, Goût et Beauté*. With the ‘L’Oiseau bleu’ and ‘Le Paon’ ranges, Gillier made birds one of his trademarks. - Two images with small holes, another with a tear in the motif. Rubbed and slightly creased. With some colour bleeding and glazing at the edges. Partly slightly stained. Colours vivid.
