The copy is bound in a contemporary Art Deco binding of dark green, grained full-grain leather with a brown spine. The spine is decorated with gold fillets and bears the gilt title ‘SRÁMEK / TELO’. On the front cover, gold-embossed lines fan out from an inlay of white and red leather (mosaic binding). The geometric decoration is typical of Czech book art from the interwar period. The back cover is plain. The original paper jacket and the illustrated dust jacket by Hugo Böttinger are bound in at the back. Very good condition with fresh gilding. A signed copy of a major work of Czech modernism in a striking artistic binding. Frána Srámek (1877–1952) was a Czech novelist, poet and playwright. He belonged to the anarchist-influenced circle associated with the journal *Nový kult* (1897–1905) and later to the literary circle around Karel Čapek.
