Hand-bound in dark green morocco with gilt title, inlaid cover illustration, gilt edges and gilt head (signed: P. Viton) in a paper slipcase A charmingly illustrated edition (based on the 1933 edition) in a decorative hand-bound cover. - Not listed in Monod – The work is still regarded today as one of the most sensitive portrayals of a human-animal relationship in world literature. - (See KNLL). This is a psychologically sophisticated chamber drama centred on an unusual love triangle between a newlywed couple and a Carthusian cat. The illustrator, Line Touchet, was a renowned French illustrator of the Art Deco and mid-century modern periods. Her drawings lend this edition, published ten years after the first edition (1933), a completely new aesthetic charm. – Spine slightly darkened; overall a good copy.
