Raynal, Gustave
Le Meuble au XXe Siècle. With 30 lithographic plates, some coloured using pochoir and watercolours. Librairies-Imprimeries Réunies, Paris (1913). 2 pp. 30 leaves. Folio. Loose sheets in a late half-leather folder.
Viaux-Locquin, 87. – The work consists of 30 coloured plates, each depicting complete pieces of Art Nouveau furniture or ensembles, such as sideboards, chairs, tables or entire wall sections. The colouring was executed using the sophisticated pochoir technique (hand-applied stencil printing), which allows for very vivid, decorative colours and an accurate rendering of materials. Stylistically, Raynal operates within the sphere of the Parisian Art Nouveau and early Art Deco movements, as is also evident in other contemporary pattern books and portfolios on furniture and interior design. Typical features include curved lines, floral or geometric ornamentation, and a clear emphasis on the furniture as a design element in modern living. – A few plates have slight water stains on the lower outer edge, as well as light brown or dirt stains. Some show crease marks along the edges. - Very rare.
