Beuys, Joseph
4 books from: ‘Projekt Westmensch’ 1958. Facsimile reproduction. 4 vols. With reproductions of Beuys’s numerous notes and drawings. Munich and New York, Edition Schellmann, 1992. Hardback, each with one mounted illustration and a glassine cover, together in an original slipcase (slipcase slightly rubbed).
One of 365 numbered copies (total print run 400 copies). - The four volumes provide a glimpse behind the scenes of the artist’s life. The ‘Westmensch’ project comprises the four notebooks which Joseph Beuys filled with sketches, entries and project ideas between 1958 and 1965. For Beuys, the four books formed a coherent and organic whole that could not be separated. Before the facsimile edition was published in 1992, the four books were presented by Beuys at a number of exhibitions, though always without any further information about their contents. The four facsimiles thus provided the first insight into this early work by Beuys. – Edited by Wenzel, Jessyka, Eva Beuys and Jörg Schellmann. – Overall, very good copies, fresh off the press.
