Szeemann (ed.), Harald
Live In Your Head. When Attitudes Become Form. Works, Concepts, Processes, Situations, Information. / Quand les attitudes deviennent forme. Oeuvres, concepts, processus, situations, information. / Quando attitudini diventano forma. Opere – concetti – processi – situazioni – informazione. An exhibition sponsored by Philip Morris Europe. Bern, Kunsthalle Bern, 1969. 86 sheets stapled in the original folder with an alphabetical index (slightly soiled, upper hinges torn, some creases).
Catalogue of Harald Szeemann’s legendary exhibition, with which he established a novel form of exhibition design. The focus was not on a chronological or thematic arrangement of the works. Instead, through Szeemann’s curatorial concept, the works of contemporary artists dedicated to new forms of expression such as installation, Land Art, Environment and Happening entered into a dynamic dialogue. - For the exhibition, Szeemann brought together a young generation of European and American artists, including names that were little known at the time such as Richard Serra, Robert Morris, Michael Heizer, Eva Hesse, Bruce Nauman, Joseph Beuys, Mario Merz, Richard Artschwager and Lawrence Weiner. Numerous works were created specifically on site in Bern. Also represented were Jannis Kounellis, Reiner Ruthenbeck and Sarkis Zabunyan. - The exhibition led to a conflict with the board of trustees of the Kunsthalle Bern. After the board rejected a planned follow-up exhibition featuring works by Joseph Beuys, Szeemann resigned from his post. - The catalogue also contains photographically illustrated artist biographies, including those of Giovanni Anselmo, Joseph Beuys, Alighiero Boetti, Michael Buthe, Jan Dibbets, Hans Haacke, Edward Kienholz, Yves Klein, Claes Oldenburg, Panamarenko, Markus Raetz and Richard Tuttle. - In good overall condition.
