France, Anatole Les Contes de Jacques Tournebroche. With an enclosed original drawing, numerous colour illustrations and two sets of black-and-white and colour plates by Léon Lebègue. Paris, Calmann-Lévy, 1908. 8°. Original illustrated paperback bound in light brown full morocco with gold-stamped floral inlays on the spine and covers, gold-stamped title on the spine, fillets on the fore-edges, gold-stamped filets on the inner edges with corner fleurons, gilt top edge and marbled endpapers (occasionally faintly rubbed, spine slightly more so). Signed: Dervois Fils. One of 60 numbered copies of the special edition on China paper featuring both sets of illustrations. - The illustrations and ornaments, printed in gold and colour, are modelled on medieval book illumination. - Léon Lebègue (1863–1930) was a French lithographer, etcher, poster artist and illustrator. He studied under the painter Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Paris Academy and began a career in the 1890s as an illustrator for satirical and artistic magazines. Lebègue is particularly well known for his numerous advertising posters. - The first sheet is slightly loose. A fine copy in a decorative binding. Includes an original drawing, numerous colour illustrations and two suites – one in black and one in colour – by Léon Lebègue. Illustrated original brochure bound in light brown full morocco with gilt-stamped floral inlays on the spine and covers, gilt spine title, standing edge fillets, gilt-stamped inner edge fillets with corner fleurons, gilt top edge and marbled endpapers (sporadically and inconspicuously rubbed, spine somewhat more heavily so).
