Art Nouveau – Darmstadt Mathildenhöhe General Catalogue. With 27 plates and illustrations. Darmstadt, Überdokument, 1901. 20 pp. 4°. Illustrated paperback (edges discoloured, marginal glazing with missing areas). The booklet, which appeared to be a parody of the ‘Main Catalogue’ of the Artists’ Colony exhibition, was part of a promotional event initiated by the participating artists themselves after the press had reacted ambivalently to the exhibition. - Introduction: “Outshone by what we hope will be a blue sky, the ‘Überdokument’ rises up. It towers over its modest sister, the ‘Dokument’, which can only be regarded as a precursor to the overwhelming … One should bear in mind that before 15 May of this year of salvation, there was no art at all.
