Description
Fashion A collection of 97 fashion drawings. Circa 1960. Pencil and coloured pencil, some cut out and backed with fabric samples on the reverse, as well as chalk and grease pencil sketches, embroidery and appliqués on various types of vellum paper. Sheet sizes ranging from approx. 21 x 6.5 cm to 30 x 22.5 cm. Some signed ‘Vospel’. Loose in a cardboard ring binder. An extensive, complete collection by a single designer comprising designs for cocktail dresses, suits, dresses and coats, including hats and accessories, in the style of Parisian haute couture around 1960. The designs explicitly reference the House of Dior: Several sketches bear handwritten working notes such as ‘Dior skirt’ or ‘Dior pleat’, thereby deliberately drawing on characteristic cut and pleating solutions of the Parisian fashion house, such as the narrowly tailored, wide-swinging skirts in the tradition of the New Look. Further notes on cut details, such as ‘deep pleat at the back and long zip’, attest to the portfolio’s workshop character. The finished sheets feature collages of original fabric samples, some used as abstract patches of colour, others as part of the garments. - Paper partly slightly browned and stained, occasionally creased and with small marginal discolouration; fabric samples partly detached or with frayed edges. Folder heavily scuffed and torn. Overall in good condition with expressive, stylistically assured compositions. Collection comprising 97 fashion drawings. Pencil and coloured pencil, partly cut out and backed on the reverse with fabric samples, as well as chalk or grease pencil sketches, embroidery and appliqués on various types of wove paper. Further notes on construction details, such as “Hinten tiefe Falte und langer Zipp” (deep pleat and long zip at the back), attest to the working nature of the folder. The finished sheets feature collages of original fabric samples, used partly as abstract fields of colour and partly as elements of the garments. - Paper partly slightly browned and stained, occasionally creased and with minor marginal defects; fabric samples partly detached or with frayed edges.
